| Artist: Alureda “Pete” Baumhofer (ca. 1904 - 1992) Description: Standing fashionable woman in yellow with attendants. Publication information: Probably not published. Medium: Watercolor on board Size: 12.75 x 10” Signature: Signed and dated “Rita Leach ‘23” lower right. Condition: Surface dirt from decades of storage, most evident towards center of image. I believe this could be remedied fairly easily with judicious use of a kneaded eraser. I’ve made no attempt to do so, leaving it up to the purchaser to decide whether to undertake sprucing it up, or not. Comment: While the Vogue lettering at top is hand done, it’s unlikely that this piece was reproduced on the cover of that revered fashion publication. Based on the date of 1923, it was more likely an assignment during her studies at The Art School of The Art Society of Hartford (CT). Price: $1,050. |
