Frame

  Artist:  Herbert Paus (1880-1946)

Description:
Soldier with package from home.

Caption:
none

Publication information:
Likely a Collier’s Weekly coverdate of publication was December 23rd, 1916. I just don’t know the title of the magazine for certain at this point. Magazines from the WWI era are hard to find owing to various paper drives and decades of people having an opportunity to throw things away.

Medium:
Oil on stretched canvas

Size:
28 x 20”

Signature:
Signed center right.

Condition:
Rubbing to the subject’s face, overall good, nicely framed.

Comment:
During this period, Paus was considered by many to be virtually the equal of Leyendecker. Had this been by Leyendecker, the price tag would be on the order of thirty times as much.

Price: SOLD
