| Artist: John Berkey (1932-2008) Description: Astronaut and Cosmonaut reaching towards each other in space. Publication information: Cover illustration for TVGuide, week of July 12th – 18th, 1975. Literature: Includes a copy of the magazine. Medium: Acrylic on illustration board Size: 15 x 10.25” Signature: signed lower left. Condition: Very good condition, but would be well-served by a new mat, not framed. Comment: For those unfamiliar with Berkey’s work, and it’s hard to believe that there are many of you, but nonetheless… Berkey made a name for himself as a painter of science fiction subjects. Typically it is the creation of imaginative hardware that brings people to his work. As someone who painted outer space as well as anyone and more convincingly than most, Berkey was called upon to paint a speculative view of this historic meeting in space. Think of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo’s image of the Hand of God giving life to Adam, with the drama here taking place 100-some miles above our heads. Price: SOLD |
