| Artist: Harrison Fisher (1877-1934) Description: Beautiful woman with red wrap. Caption: none Publication information: Cover for Hearst’s International combined with Cosmopolitan of September, 1926. Medium: Pastel on toned paper Size: 15 x 13.75” Signature: signed lower left. Condition: Image area is very good. Outside of the image area, the sheet shows discoloration and a minor tear both of which probably date to the time of old matting. This piece shows well, but should really be rematted and reframed. Comment: Fisher did a huge number of cover subjects for Cosmo in all its incarnations, creating virtually all of the images to grace the cover of the monthly magazine from 1913 through his death in 1934. In a day when images of beautiful women were the chief selling points of magazines, Fisher dominated the field. His works were emulated by artists, both professional and amateur, to such an extent that many works to come to market today are copies. This, though, is the real article… accept no cheap imitations!
