| Artist: Harry Fisk (1887-1974)
Description: Cowboy and horse leap over ravine to escape posse. Publication information: Pulp magazine cover for one of the Street & Smith titles, though exact publication credits have not yet been determined, it most likely graced the cover of Western Story in the mid-1920s. Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 32 x 25” Signature: signed and dated (1925) lower right. Condition: Very good. Recently relined, restretched and cleaned. Comment: If you’ve seen enough western serials, you’ll practically be able to hear the thundering of the hooves in this scene. From an artistic standpoint, this piece is far better painted than the majority of western pulp covers of its day. The composition, play of light and dark and impressionistic brushstrokes could easily lead one towards the conclusion that this was painted for a particularly important issue of the magazine. So, if anyone out there has a copy of this magazine for sale at a realistic price, please let me know… perhaps we can work something out. Price: $4,750. | ||||||
