  Artist: Oscar Liebman (1919-2002)

Description:
Coney Island crowds flee approaching storm.

Publication information:
Not readily known, probably not a mainstream publication. Based on the appearance of the Parachute Jump in background, this probably dates from the mid-to-late 1940s.

Medium:
Scratchboard

Size:
7.75 x 9.75”

Signature:
Not signed, artist’s name appears on verso, presumably in his hand.

Condition:
Good, not framed.

Comment:
At this stage of his career, Liebman focused on the types of social realism made popular by Reginald Marsh amongst others. Anyone who’s visited Coney Island will recognize the accuracy of Liebman’s depiction—you can almost smell the salt and sweat.

Price:
$950.
