Artist: Louis Fancher (1884-1944)

Description:Young child at foot of stairs with images of Indian, pirate and bear.

Caption: “The Thing We Call Fear”

Publication information: Apparently for a story entitled “The Thing They Call Fear” by Roosevelt in 1919 or 1920. Where the story appeared and for that matter which Roosevelt is the author are things I have yet to learn.

Medium: Gouache en grisaille

Size: 14” (circular)

Signature: Monogrammed and dated ('19) lower right.

Condition:Very good, modest vintage frame.

Comment: A great image by someone whose work doesn't show up on the market very often. In fact his originals are rare enough that I have come to doubt that there are Fancher collectors out there. Prove me wrong... even the largest collection started with a single piece.

Price: $950  PRICE REDUCED
