Godwin, Frank

Price: $2,450.00

Description: At Greenwich Village tea room “The Saffron Eel”

Provenance: Ex-collection Society of Illustrators Permanent Collection.

Comment: A very intriguing piece… in part because it's so tempting to see the highly specific faces of the characters as caricatures of known personalities of the day. I had thought, prior to locating the magazine story reproduced online, that the subjects could be illustrators… now I'm not so sure. The article cited above relates specifically to Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman… political activists, Anarchists and all-around rabble-rousers. Those who enjoy history owe themselves more delving into the subject matter… a good place to start is the Collier's Weekly article. A printout of the article is included with the purchase

Price: $2,450 (+ $150 domestic shipping)
