Description: Woman dressing, man in foreground
Comment: Anyone who's perused my website more than once or anyone who's attended any of several paperback conventions or for that matter anyone who just generally pays attention will know that there were a large number of paperback books produced through the 1950s. Plenty of them included great art on their covers, many also included great writing. Some have come to be regarded as icons in the history of that particular, specialized field of collecting. Hey, here's one now. What's remarkable about it is the fact that, while the artwork was first published in 1951 the paperback cover art world was being increasingly pointed to as indicative of the breakdown of the fabric of American society. Perhaps the nay-sayers were right and perhaps not… what's notable is the fact that for the 1952 Dell Books printing, the publisher instructed Stanley to tame down the original cover art… the result is what you see here. Check out histories of the paperback field for more on the topic. Includes copies of both of the books.
