Chambers, Charles E.

Print
Price: $3,750.00

Description: An incident at tea

Comment: From this piece and from other works by Chambers that I've handled over the years, I know the artist to be a great painter and particularly convincing en grisaille. What I don't know is what's going on here. Clearly the fallen tea cup belonged to the bearded man, yet well less than a full cup has spilled. Is he feigning an incident? With her arm out to dissuade her young suitor about involvement, the young woman clearly (well, clearly to me…) is indicating… “Hold on, I'll take care of this...” Am I right? Once you buy this, you can feel free to concoct your own story.

Price: $3,750 (+ $100 domestic shipping)
