Description: Dozing Little Bo Peep observed.
Comment: This is a very interesting piece. It was clearly created for Vanity Fair and as of yet I've not been able to find it reproduced online. As intriguing as the image itself are the notations on the reverse of the art. Specifically it is marked “VF Apr” on back, but Marty also worked steadily for sister publications Vogue, and House and Garden. Most intriguing of all though is the statement on back reading: “Given to Wolf Faber [sp?] by Frank Crowninshield at closing of Vanity Fair.” Perhaps it was scheduled for publication but the magazine merged with Vogue prior to publication. From the estate of a legendary graphic designer/illustrator. I think having spent quite a while trying to puzzle it all out that I had best leave it up to the buyer.
Price: $2,150 + $50 domestic shipping.
